Abu Ghraib

MORE THAN SORRY The right of life is something that belongs to every single person since the day of his or her birth. No one has the right to take life from that person. Unfortunately, not everyone has the chance to live without fear of death. The reality can be even more cruel that we can imagine. Torture, pain, suffering is the everyday life of the prisoners in Abu Ghraib. Beginning in 2004, accounts of abuse, rape and torture of the prisoners held in Abu Ghraib, the prison in
Iraq still continues. But, it has attracted public attention. There was a 60 minute video, and even more pictures on the Internet about the things that were happening in this prison. According Janis Karpinski, commander of Abu Ghraib at that time, almost 90 % of the detainees in the prison are innocent. The public wouldn’t be familiar with these facts, unless the publisher of New York Times, Mr. Herish brought up on light the ‘life’ of the detainees in Abu Ghraib. In the first article entitled ‘Torture in Abu Ghraib’ exposed pictures from the activities in the prison, taken with digital camera. After this article, come two more by the same reporter. They were entitled ‘Chain of Command’ and ‘The Gray Zone’. Those disturbing pictures are the best evidence how the things in Abu Ghraib are, that no one wants to talk about. Some people that are working at Abu were interviewed, but no one wants to talk about the real things that are happening there behind the eyes of the public. No one mentions torture or abuse, although the pictures worth more than thousands explanations. Is it right to take away something without strong reason and evidences, and more important something that we don’t even have the right to take what is not ours.
